Course Capstone Project and Open-Ended Laboratory activities in microprocessor and embedded systems course towards sustainable development

The United Nations approved the 17 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to implement a sustainable world by 2030. It was accepted that poverty and other problems in this world must be resolved jointly in the areas of poverty, health, energy, education, gender inequality, economic growth, environment and climate changes, social issues, collection, and preservation of natural resources above and below this earth, etc. For this purpose, we need a coordinated and concerted effort by all.

Engineering design research, innovations, development, and commercialisation can support us in the venture. As such, emphasis is being given to the research and innovative product development through the microcontroller-based embedded system design, and thereby attaining both societal and economic progress by trying to attain multiple SDGs due to the interconnectedness of the SDGs and the complexity of the ‘sustainability’ term as a concept. Such types of system design tasks are very cheap, and electronic engineers find it easy to resolve complex engineering problems to achieve a specific SDG, and hence to realise a sustainable society for the humankind.

Top 3 Learnings

  1. Open-Ended Laboratory (OEL) activities can provide opportunities for the students to learn and earn.
  2. Course Capstone Project (CP) design related tasks are publishable in journal and presentable in conferences.
  3. Through OEL and CP, students are better prepared for their final year design projects and research.
4 - Quality Education 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
