Small footprint – huge strides

Heart of Worcestershire College has taken positive action from our Race to Zero Road Map through the re-wilding of our campus to delivering sustainable education and awareness. These form part of our three-fold “Es for the Environment” strategy. 1 – Education, (You would expect nothing less of us), Emissions, (Protect the Planet and De-carbonise the College), 3 – Ecology, (Boosting the Campus Eco-systems). We have shown that a small group of like-minded, passionate people, with a simple plan and ambition, can guide and inspire a large group of people to take action that significantly reduces carbon emissions and increases sustainable actions at home and college.

Our approach is not to chastise, but praise. To build an active community, that reduces Co2 emissions, grows our campus, promotes, and most importantly for us, educates and inspires others towards sustainable living. Leading towards our College becoming a renowned educator that incorporates sustainability in education and training.

Annual carbon savings achieved with the initiative:

• CO2t savings 2022/2023: 210.31mt (Actual Sept 2022 to Apr 2023 and predicted May to July 2023).
• CO2t savings 2023/2024:100mt (Estimated against 2022/23).
• CO2t savings over the life cycle of the project: 2,738.64mt (Actual from 2019/20 – 2021/22/Estimated for 2022/23 and 2023/24). Over 4 years from baseline year in 2018/19.
• Annual Savings as compared to baseline year consumption. 688.71mt saved comparing saving against each previous year.
