My commitment to sustainable development has delivered benefits to my colleagues, students and to local community organisations. I have worked tirelessly and ceaselessly over the past five years to embed opportunities for students studying social sciences at UWE to engage with sustainable development. I have created bespoke modules within sociology and criminology programmes; developing a module structure which is readily adaptable to other disciplines and have embedded sustainable development into core modules to provide a ‘spine’ of sustainable development curricula through the student journey.

I work with students to co-design each year’s run of the student co-organised public web/seminars embedded within my bespoke modules as a skills development opportunity for the students and to ensure that the learning meets that cohorts’ interests. Once the public web/seminar theme has been identified, I work with the students and local stakeholder organisations to develop and deliver the public web/seminars. This provides further skills development for students, develops local networks, and widens the impact of my work. The passion which I display through these teaching and learning initiatives is inspirational to students and colleagues alike.
