Sustainable building today for a better tomorrow

The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sectors design and create a nation’s infrastructure and buildings the world-over. However, the AEC sectors can have detrimental impacts on people and the planet. This project, led by Colin Booth at UWE Bristol, combines the efforts of several industry and academia professionals in the AEC sectors to create roadmaps towards the delivery of the SDGs through responsible/ethical sourcing supply chains (e.g.BES6001) and environmental management systems (e.g.ISO14001).

Both themes of the project were designed to follow identical pathways; whereby, information extracted from comprehensive literature reviews, confirmed by independent experienced industry experts, was used by the project teams to create roadmaps for conveyance of the SDGs.

These roadmaps were then presented to different independent experienced industry experts to validate and to endorse their appropriateness for uptake by the AEC sectors (e.g. expert quote “this is a much-needed tool”). Finally, both roadmaps were published in separate peer-reviewed international journals.
