The Awards have become established as the most prestigious recognition of environmental best practice within the further and higher education sectors. The Awards provide the sector with benchmarks for excellence and are respected by Government, funding councils, senior management, academics and students.
Working on sustainability projects in your institution is common practice these days but how do you inspire and motivate your team, management and students to do more? Applying for a Green Gown Award not only motivates those involved but it inspires others in the sector to do more and opens the doors to new opportunities:
Take a look at the categories and see where you think your project or initiative could be a winner. If you're not sure, give us a call and we can advise you. Don't forget, the Green Gown Awards are free to enter and there's no limit to the number of entries you can make providing your project meets the category criteria. Winning an Award will bring huge awareness and positive PR to not only your institution as a whole but also to the profile of sustainability within it.
Don’t let being small put you off! Judges have the discretion to award up to two winners for all categories (for both large and small institutions). This is done at the discretion of the judges and only when warranted.
The Green Gown Awards are run in the UK and Ireland, Australasia, French speaking Europe and Canada and across the 6 UNEP regions (Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and West Asia) known collectively as the GUPES Green Gown Awards. Winners from each of the regions will go head-to-head for a coveted International Green Gown Award. Find out more
All categories are open to all post-16 educational institutions (further or higher education institutions, work-based or adult and community learning providers).
Applications are also encouraged from third parties such as catering suppliers, waste companies, transport providers, accommodation providers, architects etc. Third party organisations may enter on behalf on an institution, but an institution employee must approve the application. The Award will be made to the institution and not to the third party organisation. When filling out the application form, please state how the partnership should be named in the communication, if selected, as a Finalist.
